When I proposed the idea of a podcast to my coworker, Kayti, she may have been right in laughing at the idea (in true Kayti fashion). I agree the world may not need another podcast, but I would also argue that WE do.
For me, the podcast is important for a few reasons: it shares and amplifies the stories of our neighbors and fellow Montanans doing amazing things that we may not know about; it shines a light on who and what makes this place amazing; and it provides a moment of slowness, connection, and community in a world that often feels ever quickening and disconnected.
In episode 2.4 with Mark Thieszen, the owner of Homestake Lodge Ski Area, he asked me what I wish for myself. I responded that I simply want “to matter.”
I’m under no false pretense, a podcast isn’t world-changing, an apparel store isn’t world-changing, a newsletter isn’t world-changing. However, these are things I can create to nudge the world—my world—in a direction I believe is more understanding, more welcoming, and more fun. They may not be entirely world-changing, but then again, they might be.
Stories are the vessels of culture and exploration and perspective. These are all ways of bottling up curiosity and turning it into something others can experience.
Because of all the places in the world, I’ve ended up here. In a place that continually surprises me. The least I can do is sit down with people to explore their work and passions making this place as special as anywhere else on the planet.
I invite you to listen to Of All The Places podcast seasons 1 and 2. Enjoy the show and our guests’ stories – I sure have. And even more importantly, I feel like Kayti has, too.
